Many members will by now have heard that we had to cancel the meetings planned for Saarbrucken this week, as
will other activities planned for the Spring. The reason for this is simply that the various meetings held
between September and November last year exceeded the predicted spend significantly, and this left the
network without the resources to continue the program of activities originally planned for 2000. We have therefore
had to reluctantly cancel planned activities across the board (including the Barcelona meetings in June). We
realise this will be frustrating for all concerned, particularly for those expecting to travel to SIG
meetings and receive AgentLink support. We can only apologise for this unexpected and disappointing turn of
events, and point out that we do recognise that the responsibility for the failure to predict the situation
lies with us.

We emphasise that the need to cancel planned activities has *nothing whatsoever* to do with the AgentLink II
proposal, and everything to do with how much money was left in the bank for AgentLink 1. Nor are there any
implications for the follow-on proposal: in AgentLink 1 we carried out an impressive range of activities,
and fully achieved the goals we were set.

We hope to hear about the continuation proposal within the next few weeks, and will inform you just as soon
as we have more information. We will also keep you informed about the status of AgentLink 1.

Again, we deeply apologise for the inconvenience the cancellations have caused members.
